Ephesians 5:30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
So what is the mystery here?
The Lord has so many facets to His word. But I want to share this one aspect of revelation with you that I received reading these versus.
First I asked myself, "Why does God put in versus 30 and 32 into the husband and wife section of the scriptures?" We know we are called the bride of Christ, so I understand that, but why is it called a mystery? Not only a mystery, but a great mystery.
1 Corinthians 11:24 when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
Why does the Lord want us to proclaim His death? When we eat of the bread, His flesh, and drink of the cup, His blood, we acknowledge He came in the flesh and died as a man. Pagan religions try to say He never came in the flesh, or if they acknowledge His flesh, they want to call Him just a prophet.
As we become bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh, we become one with Christ. If Christ wouldn't have come back in the flesh we could not become one, because we are now flesh since the fall of mankind.
John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
In John it tells us that God is spirit, but we know Jesus came in the flesh, God in the flesh. We also know we have a spirit, soul and body. It is in His flesh and in His bone that we can become part of the body of Christ; that we can become one with Christ here on earth! When we become one with Christ we are cleaving, adhering, sticking, and clinging to Him. A bond that is not easily broken. We are in covenant with Him.
If we are one with Christ and we cleave to Him, forsaking all else, is there anything we could not ask in His name and it shall be done. If we are one, we think like Christ; we live like Christ; we act like Christ. What would the Father not do for us?
When we act like the world the Lord is so gracious to protect us from the prayers we pray from our earthly flesh desires. But when we pray from the body perspective, the body of Christ, the whole body of Christ, we pray differently; we think differently, because we are one. We lay down our will and pick up His will. If we are praying His will can anything stop us?
Marriage was meant to be a lifetime covenant between a man and a woman. It was taking 2 individuals and creating perfect harmony between them. The fall has dimmed the meaning of true marriage, but through Christ it can be revived. The meaning not only in earthly marriage, but also in the covenant here on earth with Him and His body.
We can live as one with Christ! I do not want to wait to get to heaven to be a part of this great covenant with His flesh and His bone, if we can taste of it here on earth!!
I know as the body of Christ we cannot even begin to see the the church body becoming in perfect harmony, because there is so much division, but I want to have as much as possible in this fallen world as I can get. It starts with each one of us coming into a marriage covenant with Jesus.
