Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If you are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”
Mark 1:40, 41 [NKJV]
Today’s word from the Lord: I am willing!
My thoughts: In Mark Chapter 1 verse 41 it says, “Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” In verse 40 there is a man that is a leper and he is talking to Jesus saying that he knows if He is willing He could heal him of the leprosy. Notice that Jesus first touches him and then heals him. A man with leprosy was isolated and set apart from everyone and everything. He or she would be considered unclean. Jesus saw the isolation, the loneliness, and the hopelessness of this man.
He could have healed him first and then touched him for His own cleanliness, but He chose to touch him and to meet his first need. I can just imagine what that man must have been thinking, “I can not believe He just touched me, me a man unclean. I have not been touched in such a long time.” How Jesus must have looked at him with a love that we cannot comprehend.
Then He said, “I am willing.” I want to tell you today that Jesus wants to touch you in the very first area of your need also. It may not even be what you are asking for, but He sees deep inside of you and what that first need truly is. He is willing, are you? (1)
