Kundalini

To continue my blog on yoga and kundalini I would like to give you a little more information about this.
 
The World English Dictionary defines Kundalini as: the life force that resides at the base of the spine. Kundalini is a word from the Sanskrit language, possibly one of the oldest languages in the world. Sanskrit means “Cities of the god’s,” and kundalini in the Sanskrit language means “coiled serpent.”
 
The concept of kundalini comes from ancient India and refers to spiritual awakening. This may take place through yoga, drugs, meditation, etc.. According to tradition kundalini is curled up in the back part of the root chakra in three and a half turns around the sacrum of the spine.   The serpent or life force is held at the base of the spine until it is aroused and sent to the head to trigger enlightenment, the purpose of yoga.
 
Enlightenment or gnosis is nothing new. They fought Gnosticism in Jesus day.
 
Gnosis: esoteric knowledge of spiritual truth held by the ancient Gnostics to be essential to salvation
 
Esoteric: requiring or exhibiting knowledge that is restricted to a small group
