Matthew 27:22-26 (NLT)
22 Pilate responded, “Then what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?”
They shouted back, “Crucify him!”
23 “Why?” Pilate demanded. “What crime has he committed?”
But the mob roared even louder, “Crucify him!”
24 Pilate saw that he wasn’t getting anywhere and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. The responsibility is yours!”
25 And all the people yelled back, “We will take responsibility for his death—we and our children!”
26 So Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.
The NKJV in verse 25 says it as: "His blood be upon us and upon our children."
Earlier in that same chapter it tells us that Pilate knew that the chief priests and elders handed Jesus over to him because of their envy.
What would they be envious of? Jesus spoke out against the religious group in His ministry. He openly condemned their evil oral laws and man made rules that they placed on the people oppressing them in their abilities to worship and pray freely. Even though they themselves witnessed Jesus' great love, power and miracles they chose to condemn innocents rather than to repent and give up their own wealth and power.
We need to remember the belief in this day was about cursing and blessing. Words spoken were taken very seriously. They had no idea that they were killing the very man that would become the Savior of the world and break the curse of Satan on this earth. The curse they spoke of on themselves and their own children could soon be broken by the blood that they would be guilty of shedding. That's mercy!
In Leviticus 17:11 it says: For the life of the body is in its blood.
Blood is a very complicated source of life to understand. One of my family members had to get a blood transfusion not too long ago, and when he returned home his wife noticed he liked news and sports. These were two things he never was interested in prior to this transfusion. She was bewildered at this and so was I. We think with all the science and knowledge we have that we know so much, but I tell you we know so little about the creation of our Creator.
There are those in the faith that believe in generational curses as in the days of the bible. I'm not going to even try to agree or disagree about this in this short blog, but what I do know is there is not a curse on this earth from any generation or evil power that can attach itself to me as I have covered all things in my life and Christian walk with the blood of Jesus. By the power of His blood I am set free!
There is still power in His blood!
