From previous posts you have seen how we began Hard Truth Ministry. In the next few weeks I would like to share with you some of the stories we have seen as we have been going to the streets of Phoenix to minister to the lost and broken. We always invite them to church and offer assistance or rides to the shelters in their area, but usually they have been to many of the shelters themselves already and they consider the streets their home. They have learned to adapt to this lifestyle and they don’t really want off the streets, or if they do they must go to a detox center first before any shelter would take them. As sad as it is to see them living in these conditions and thinking, "What kind of life is this? What do you have to lose?" This is where they choose to be. We can pray, encourage and love them where they’re at. We give them a number to call if they ever want off the streets, and we move on to the next one hoping to make a difference in a very dark city.
As we turned onto Van Buren, there at the bus stop was a women crouched over to her side. I could not see what she was doing, but as we stopped my daughter and I got out of the van. We approached her and it was very apparent she was high on drugs. Her needle was there where it had dropped at her feet as she was shooting up just moments before. Her eyes rolled around as I attempted to talk with her. I looked at this woman so high she had no idea we were even there.
Suddenly I felt the Holy Spirit come on me so strong. Love filled me, my daughter and our surroundings. It was a cloud of glory. My daughter and I began to cry and all I could do was look at this woman with love and compassion. I prayed for her and I stood to leave, when suddenly she became instantly sober and began to talk with me.
She felt conviction evident by immediately telling me how she had been to detox several times but always for the wrong reasons, but this time she wanted to go for the right reason, with me never asking one question. I ministered to her, prayed again, and felt a release from the Lord. I didn't know if she would really go to that detox center, or if she would look for her next fix, but as I walked away from that women the Lord said, “This is why you go out. If she dies tonight, she will know My name and she can cry out to Me and I will hear her.” Joy filled my heart. With everything inside of me I wanted to rescue her, but that was not my choice it was hers. We never know the final seconds of death and what takes place. Only God knows the heart, only He knows the final thoughts. I thank Him that when we cry out in repentance, He hears our cries and He will run to save us.
Do you know Jesus? Has He filled your heart so full of love for others that it drives you to not weary in doing good? Do you need a refreshing today in your spirit?
He is so faithful to send the right person; the right book; the right radio program to us wherever we are to lift the things of this world off of us long enough to speak to us in some way, or feel His presence so strong we are convicted and repent of our ways. Then He removes all that heaviness and fills us with hope once again.
