It was Sunday evening and I had been at the hospital all weekend with my brother-in-law and granddaughter. I had not had time to go to the grocery store to get food for the next week, so off Rich and I went to the store.
On arrival the store was very busy so we grabbed our grocery cart, and we headed into the battle ground. I informed my husband to follow me with the cart and away we went up and down each aisle, dodging other grocery baskets, weaving our way in and out. We turned the corner and there was the bread aisle. It was very crowded, but I could see a way we could get through and reach the bagels that we needed. “Come on honey let’s go for it!” I exclaimed.
I impatiently started down the aisle, and as I arrived at the bagels, I grabbed a bag of them and turned and threw them in the cart. I then quickly turned back around and started heading to the end of the aisle like I was in a race. I faintly could hear a voice that said, “I don’t think these are meant for me.” I turned around to see a man handing me my bagels, laughing along with everyone else in the aisle. I also had to chuckle and say, “I’m sorry wrong husband.”
Now my face is turning ten shades of red, and I am looking for my husband. I head back down to the other end of the aisle and there stands Rich. Hearing the laughter he asks, “What happened?” I said, “I just threw my bagels in another man’s basket!” I was furious he did not follow me as I had instructed. He looks at me and says, “I told you I would wait here for you because it was too crowded to take the cart down this aisle.” I was in such a hurry I did not even hear him speak to me. I could do nothing but laugh at myself for being so rushed not even looking at my surroundings nor the man behind me to see that he was not Rich.
Have you ever thrown your bagels in another man’s basket? Maybe not as I did, but have you been so busy and your mind racing you are not aware of your surroundings? Have you blamed someone and gotten upset with them only to find out it was you who did not listen for instructions? I have to think how many times I race ahead of God, and I do not stop long enough to hear His instructions to me. I may be too busy giving my instructions to HIM!
Stop and listen today, the Father might be trying to tell you something of a very important matter!
Proverbs 1:33 But whoever listens to me will dwell safely,
And will be secure, without fear of evil.”
John 8:43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word.
