Where is the Father?

Because of a distorted world view of fathers it is very difficult for many of us to understand a father’s love. Single moms with boyfriends living in the home and children being raised by step-fathers today is at an alarming rate. Although we thank God for wonderful men that step into that father role for children whose fathers have abandoned the home for one reason or another, there are still so many that are left to a step-father or boyfriend that is non-caring or even abusive.

God was the first parent. He created Adam and Eve as His children in His image and then He gave us the privilege of creating our children in our image. As we look upon our children for those signs of ourselves in them, so the Father looks for the signs of Him in us.

The love you feel for your children is a love God feels for you and even greater. God is the only one 100% for you. Think about that for one moment, no one can be 100% for you, not even your parents, because we are all self-centered to some point. Our flesh requires it. We would destroy ourselves and we could not exist if we were not in some way for ourselves. We must eat and drink, and we must rest, etc... For us to continue to walk this earth to be a part of our children’s and grandchildren’s lives we must serve ourselves in some way.

I remember the time in my life when the Lord spoke to me and helped me to see that Jesus, I could love because He was my Savior; the Holy Spirit, I could love because He dwelt in me and comforted and empowered me, but I didn’t get the Father. I couldn’t begin to understand His love because I was raised in a single mother home. I never felt the love of a father on this earth. I never had a man that loved me as a father would, or worry about me, or to protect me from bad things. I was never a daddy’s girl or told I was beautiful by a loving father.

My Father in heaven so gently healed my hurts and he showed me that the reason Jesus died on the cross was to open up the Holy of Holies for me to walk into the very throne room of God, to spend time with my heavenly Father. He showed me I am loved, treasured, and protected by Him. He tells me I am beautiful, and He will watch over me. Any time I am hurt, lonely or confused He has showed me that I can come to Him as my father. I imagine myself climbing up onto His lap and feeling safe and secure in His presence as He holds me.

I remember several times my husband as pastor would hug a young man at the altar and say something like, "The Father says to tell you that I am your earthly father now and I love you and He loves you." They would just weep and hug him so hard. Later they would tell him that they never had a father, or they never had a fatherly love in their lives. It was so wonderful to see these young men find their heavenly Father, and experience that kind of love.

I was talking with a young man who was involved in New Age and he made a statement to me that I could relate to as a Christian. He said “People pray and think their prayers go way up there somewhere and they hope they make it.” It really struck me. I thought that is like so many of us as Christians, we pray and think our prayers go way up there somewhere. We are not sure and have doubts if they are ever heard. We only hope our prayers reach our heavenly Father.

I want to assure you today that if you are a Christian your heavenly Father hears your prayers. Before you can even speak them He knows them. He is right next to you, and lives in you, and He knows your heart. When I understood that I could enter the Holy of Holies it changed my prayer life.

The Father is with you always even unto the end of the age and for all eternity.

We so need Christian men to show a heavenly Father's love. Will you do it today?
